Tributes paid to former Adur councillors

Four former members of Adur District Council are to be honoured following their recent deaths.

Liza McKinney, Rod Hotton, Fred Lewis and Frances Fletcher, who collectively served the district for more than 30 years, have all died recently.

Liza McKinney represented Marine Ward during her 15 years on the Council and was recently made an honorary Alderwoman of the district in appreciation of her time and commitment to her communities. She also served as Chairman of Adur from May 2002 to May 2004.

Rod Hotton represented St Mary's Ward during his eight years as a local councillor.

Fred Lewis represented Widewater Ward during his eight years as a local councillor and also served as Chairman of Adur in 2014.

Frances Fletcher represented Buckingham Ward during her three years as a local councillor.

Councillors and officers will hold a one-minute silence in their memory at the next Adur Council meeting, on Thursday 20th July 2023 at 7pm.

To mark Mrs McKinney's funeral, the Adur District Council flag will fly at half mast outside the Shoreham Centre on Friday 21st July 2023.

Cllr Neil Parkin, the Leader of Adur District Council, said:

“It's deeply saddening to lose four of our former members in such a short space of time.

“Liza, Rod, Fred and Frances gave so much time to our communities during their time as councillors. We will continue to remember them and their commitment to the district.

“On behalf of the Council, I send our deepest condolences to their families and friends.”
